# 70 Cool Math Games

My little Miss Four seems to be right into math games at the moment.  She’s always counting things and using her fingers to help keep track of things she’s counting.

I wanted to harness this eagerness so I’ve been searching the Internet for some cool math games that I can use with her.  Well there are definitely some great math games out there, so I’ve put this list together to help you find some of those games as well.

As there are so many games below, to make it easy to find ones that will suit your class, I’ve sorted them into junior primary, middle primary and upper primary games.

## Junior Primary Math Games

6. Tally mark and number games by No Time For Flashcards
Two games are explained here: Dominoes and Speed Racer.  Great for getting students to practice recognizing numbers and tally’s.

7. Ladybug counting game by B-Inspired Mama
A great activity for students just starting out with numbers.

8. Monster math by Inner Child Learning
A fun way to practice simple sums.

9. Race to 1000 by Teaching Maths With Meaning
Students use a deck of cards and dice to be the first to get to 1000 points.

10. Egg O by Kids Activities Blog
Shake the egg carton and then get students to either add, subtract or multiply the numbers.  The first student to a designated score is the winner.

11. Strike it out by Teach Mama
This game uses a number line to add and subtract until a player can no longer make a move.

12. Making equations math game by Mama Jenn
A card game that gets your students to practice simple addition and subtraction equations. The student with the most cards is the winner.

13. Super tens by Frog Spot
To play this game you’ll need matchsticks and the cute super hero printables. Students make groups of 10 to fill the hair on the super heroes.

14. Doubles game boards by Oceans of First Grad Fun
Lots of different game boards are provided. Students roll a dice and then double their number to add a counter to the board.  5 counters in a row is the winner.

15. Free 2D shape dominoes by Top Notch Teaching
Pick up a free 2D shape domino game that will help your students learn the names of the shapes. The dominoes have a mixture of the various 2D shape pictures as well as the properties of 2D shapes.

16. Fly swatter math game by Kids Activities Blog
You could have 2 students race each other to see who can swat the answer the quickest.  Keep it simple for younger students by getting them to recognize the number, or provide simple word problems to increase the difficulty.

17. Catapult addition by Relentlessly Fun, Deceptively Educational
This looks like lots of fun.  Catapult pom poms into paper plates and have students add their scores to see who can get the highest.

18. Egg carton number toss by Kids Activities Blog
A fun way to practice matching and number recognition.

19. Carrot crunch by Frog Spot
For this game students add two dice numbers and cover the answer on their game board.

20. Don’t get zapped by Mrs. Samuelson’s Swamp Frogs
For this game students take a stick from the monster and try and solve the problem. They get to keep it if it’s answered correctly. There are also sticks that have other directions to make the game interesting.

21. Odd and even number sort by Busy Little Bugs
A sorting game for kindy and grade 1 students using the numbers 1-20.

22. Number line addition and subtraction game by Mama Jenn
Get your students using a number line to add and subtract. The first student to the end is the winner.

23. Numeral identification game by Teachable Moments
A game for little kids just learning about identifying numbers and dot patterns on dice.

24. Feed the chicken multiplication game by Dragon’s Den Curriculum
Players answer multiplication questions and collect chicken food cards if they get the answer correct. The player with the most cards is the winner.

25. Money sorting game by Simple Play, Playful Learning
Learn coin values with a simple game using a recycled container.

26. Four free math games by Sunny Days in Second Grade
Here you’ll find 4 free games that you can download. They use a range of materials including cards, dice, pop sticks and dominoes.

This is a time matching game, where students match the digital time on the tile to the matching clock. The winner is the first to fill the card.

38. Cover it by Education
A simple game where students roll dice and then cover numbers in a line with counters. The first player to cover all 13 numbers is the winner.

## Middle Primary Math Games

Numero is a card game that you can use to help develop your students’ mental computation skills.  It’s very easy to differentiate the game by using only the number cards or including the wild cards and scoring.  I have used this game with junior, middle and upper primary students.

42. Eureka by Teaching Maths With Meaning
This game involves students adding numbers mentally to reach a target number.  The student who reaches the number loses the game.  A fantastic game of strategy.

43. Multiples tic tac toe game by Math Coach’s Corner
Using the familiar game of tic tac toe to practice multiples.

A game that combines both multiplication and finding the area.

47. Zap it by Mrs Young’s Explorers
Students draw a stick and answer the sum that is on it.  If they’re correct they keep the stick, if not it goes back in the jar.  They don’t want to get the zap it stick, otherwise all the sticks go back in the jar.

48. Greedy pig by Teaching Maths With Meaning
I just love the name of this game :-).  Students need to decide when to bank their score or risk staying in the game longer to get a higher score.

49. Stomp it place value game by Creekside Learning
A good game that can be extended for middle primary students to include numbers into the hundreds of thousands and millions. Students use their whole body to stomp numbers.

50. Island conquer game by Corkboard Connections
A game to help students practice area and perimeter skills. Each player takes turns graphing coordinate points and then working out the area and perimeter.

51. Square root car racing game by Nyla’s Crafty Teaching
Students race around the board and answer the question cards. This game is to help revise square root number facts.

52. Division races by First Grade a la Carte
Students race each other answering the division questions. The first to the flag is the winner. Free download for this game.

Students race the clock to complete the problems.

54. Pyramid solitaire by The Tutor House
A great solo game that can give you lots of information about a student’s ability to add quickly and understand that numbers are flexible.

These puzzles are easily adaptable for all grade levels. They do take a bit of work to make the puzzles, but they look like lots of fun. Students need to put the puzzle back together using the equations and matching an answer.

A game for 2 players that helps students to practice the mental math strategy of estimating.

65. Muffin tin ping pong math by Plain Vanilla Mom
This would be so much fun to do in the classroom. You could set up teams and race to see who can answer the most questions in a given time. Can be adapted for any year level by changing the difficulty of the equations.
