Do you use guided reading in your class? If you’re unsure what guided reading is and how it should look then the video this week is just for you.
Firstly, guided reading involves a process where the teacher supports students (in a small group situation) to develop their understanding of reading processes and strategies so that they can become independent and fluent readers.
Guided reading is an excellent strategy that can be incorporated into the teaching program and can aid in the development of:
- Comprehension strategies;
- Understanding of structures;
- Word recognition;
- Types of punctuation; and
- Conventions of language.
The video this week is a great example of a guided reading lesson. The teacher works with a small group of students to teach them about inferring. The video is a bit longer, so you will need to put aside about 10 minutes to watch this.
I hope you enjoy!
