It’s not easy to provide a variety of engaging activities for students to practice the phonics skills they learn in class. Wouldn’t you love to have phonics homework ready to roll? Right now you can get two weekly phonics homework packs…free!
Phonics homework packs make your life easier. All you have to do is copy the pages and send them home. Each pack includes activity sheets with clear directions for the student, plus an overview tracking sheet for student and parents.
These phonics homework packs make things easy for families to support students by showing clearly what a student is supposed to do and what materials are needed.
And the phonics homework packs are both easy for a student to follow—and fun! Each pack includes a variety of activities to keep students engaged and provides different practice types.
Fun phonics homework includes roll & read game…and more
One game my students love is Roll and Read. All you need is a game board, markers for each player (2–4) and a die. Players take turns rolling the die and moving their counter. Each player reads the word they land on aloud. If a player lands on a spot with an arrow, they follow the arrow forwards or backwards. The first player to the finish is the winner.
The sample homework pack includes a ready to use Roll and Read Game and a blank, make your own Roll and Read Game board. You can customize the game to your word list or have students write in words they need to practice before playing the game.
Other activities found in the sample homework pack include:
- Draw and match
- Find the words
- Fluency board
- Jumbled sentences
- Missing punctuation
- Missing sounds
- Say and trace
- Tap it, map it, zap it
- Word of the week
- Write your own sentences
While I created these packs to make homework easy on you, they can be used in many ways. Some work well for independent practice in class; others for small group work. You can use the worksheets as an informal assessment or put them in your literacy station.
