A few of us Aussie bloggers decided to have a little fun and swap some teaching items from our Teachers pay Teachers stores.
I was lucky enough to be paired up with Yara from Sea of Knowledge. Yara has an extensive range of products (156 to be precise) in her store and I especially like her math items. So I selected her Number Bears {Mega Math Unit for K-G1}.
SWAP
So the swap part of this post is Yara and I swapped an item from our stores and now we share our experience with the item. I hope you enjoy reading about Yara’s Number Bears pack as much as I have been enjoying using it.
What you’ll get
When you purchase the resource, it is sent electronically as a PDF. The PDF is 94 pages in length and includes:
- A cover page;
- Standards page which includes links to both the Australian and Common Core Standards;
- Table of contents;
- 7 sections for the different activities:
- Number bears ordering
- Bears steal honey jars game
- Dancing bears
- Busy bears with ten frames
- Honey jar fight
- Add and color pair game
- Printables
A fantastic variety of tasks to help your kiddos learn their numbers.
Putting it together
I spent quite a bit of time printing, cutting and just generally putting this item together. I chose not to laminate some of the pieces, but rather copied them on thick card stock instead. I find my little students find it too difficult to pick up laminated pieces from the table top, so the thick card works better.
Below you’ll find some pictures of the parts that you’ll get in this pack.
How I’ve been using it
My Little Miss Four started kindy this year, and you think she would have had enough of school, but no….that’s her latest favorite game, playing schools 😉
So it wasn’t hard to get her to complete the activities. Actually she was the one that chose the pack from Yara’s store. I complete lots of literacy activities with her, so I was after some fun math ideas, and this was the one she picked. I think the cute bears had something to do with it! The pack is designed for students in years pre k, k and 1, so perfect for her.
Below are some pictures of how we’ve been using some of the tasks. She particularly loved the Dancing Bears and sorting the number cards.
I think what I like most about this item is the variety of activities that are included. There are fun games, practice sheets, opportunities for group work as well as individual. These would work extremely well in centers.

Yara also reviewed one of the items from my store. So if you’d like to see what Yara thought of my:

Now the share part is where I share a freebie with you. Yara and I decided it would be fun to create a special little resource for you. So my gift to you is a printable page that will help the little kids develop their number skills. There are two versions of the page, one with a summer theme and the other a winter theme. And if you head over to Yara’s blog you can pick up a digraph ‘ck’ freebie. Click the picture below to pick up this freebie.

Hey Yara,
She is definitely engaged, and she has been playing with all the different bits from the pack since we got them all ready. Quite often I find her with the number bears all lined up in order on the lounge room floor ;-).

Such a cute pack – my Preppies would go nuts over those bears! I particularly like the less than, more than and equal to 10 sorting activity. Thanks for the colour by number – perfect to go along with our Seasons unit this term. 🙂
